On September 15, 2022, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Modern Agriculture Development Roundtable Conference was held via video in the Yangling Demonstration Zone. Shaanxi Province Governor Zhao Yide and SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan attended and delivered speeches. Zhang Tianzuo, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, also participated in the meeting. Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee Member and Executive Vice Governor Wang Xiao, along with Vice Governor Ye Niuping, took part in related activities.
Zhao Yide said that the convening of this roundtable conference is a practical response to the 22nd meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council. With the theme of "Poverty Reduction and Agricultural Technology Exchange and Cooperation," the conference aligns with the expectations of the international community and the development needs of the member states. It will undoubtedly inject new momentum and vitality into deepening agricultural exchanges and cooperation among member states and jointly advancing the global poverty reduction cause.
Shaanxi is a province with a rich agricultural heritage, a large rural population, and great potential for modern agricultural development. Currently, it is focusing on rural industrial development as the foundation and key to continually consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation and comprehensively advancing rural revitalization. We are willing to take this conference as an opportunity to work with all SCO parties to deepen practical cooperation in areas such as agricultural policies, talent, trade, economic cooperation, and production capacity. This will better promote agricultural technology exchange, modern agricultural construction, and regional prosperity, making a greater contribution to the comprehensive improvement of modern agricultural development and the well-being of people in all countries.
In his video address, Sohail Khan said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Modern Agriculture Development Roundtable Conference has been held four times and has become an effective platform for member states of the SCO to collaborate in the agricultural sector and exchange experiences and best practices. In the context of the severe global food security situation, he expressed hope that the participants of this roundtable conference would make greater contributions to strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the field of modern agriculture among SCO countries, and promote the sustained and stable development of the economies and societies of the member states.
At the roundtable conference, a promotional video showcasing the SCO Agricultural Base's poverty reduction and agricultural technology exchange and cooperation was played. Guests from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, and other countries took turns speaking on the theme of "Poverty Reduction and Agricultural Technology Exchange and Cooperation." Their speeches provided valuable insights and references for exploring poverty reduction and modern agricultural development paths that are suitable for each country's national conditions.
Before the meeting, Zhao Yide visited the exhibition areas organized by various cities and districts, as well as departments such as the Provincial Taiwan Affairs Office, Provincial Water Resources Department, Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Provincial Financial Supervision Bureau, Provincial Forestry Bureau, and the Provincial Women's Federation. He learned in detail about the development of characteristic agriculture, agricultural technological innovation, and the production and sales of agricultural products. He emphasized the need to thoroughly implement the rural revitalization strategy, prioritize agricultural and rural development, and carry out actions to enhance the characteristic industries in poverty-stricken areas. The continuous integration of agriculture with science, technology, finance, and other sectors should be promoted, alongside the vigorous development of specialty economies, agricultural-based economies, and collective economies. Efforts should be made to establish "one county, one industry," "one town, one specialty," and "one village, one product" initiatives, with the goal of achieving high-quality and efficient agriculture, livable and business-friendly rural areas, and prosperous and affluent farmers.
